God's Exquisite Garden

INFINITE GOD

Print version

The word infinite means immeasurably great. Another meaning is an unlimited or unmeasurable extent of space. Yet another meaning of the word infinite is unbounded, boundless or endless. The word finite means having bounds.

We will discuss how God is infinite. Infinite can refer to an absence of all limitations. Our human minds understand we have a Glorious God. Since we are so finite, we can't understand His infinite nature.

The word infinite is seen three times in the King James Version of the Bible. It is found in Job 22:5 ; Psalm 147:5 ; and Nahum 3:9

A strength of the Egyptian city, Thebes, was their apparent infinite resources. Put and Lubim are mentioned in the latter portion of the following verse. Put was a land or people from which a portion of the Egyptian mercenary troops came. Lubim was a racial name of unclear meaning apparently applied to all white North Africans, especially the occupants of Libya.

Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers. Nahum 3:9 KJV

God's understanding is unlimited. His intelligence is endless. God numbers the stars and has named them.

He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.
Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.
Psalm 147:4-5

Our Blessed God is not restricted by space. God is everywhere. There is not a place where He is not and so there is no place where we can hide from God. Adam and Eve tried to hide from God after sinning in the garden of Eden.

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Genesis 3:8

Psalm 139:7-9 ; Psalm 90:1-2

Our Marvelous God is aware of the number of hairs on our heads. He also knows when a single sparrow falls.

Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Matthew 10:29-30

The steadfast love of God endures forever. Though people sin over and over again, God loves us. It is the sin which He hates. God desires that all men be saved and sin prevents that, so He hates sin.

For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations. Psalm 100:5

Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy,
that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God;
And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.

Isaiah 59:1-2

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith,
giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy,
having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,

1 Timothy 4:1-2

Our God is not restricted by any time limits, before time, God was. Time was ordered by God.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.
So the evening and the morning were the first day.
Genesis 1:1,5

Our Lord's ways are beyond our grasp. God commands, He speaks in a burning bush to Moses and He continues to care for us in His wondrous ways. How infinite is His care ! See Genesis 1 ,the chapter which tells about the creation.

And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush.
So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.

Exodus 3:2

β€œ God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:5-7

Job's friends felt that Jobs' suffering was because he had sinned. Eliphaz, one of Job's unsupportive friends accuses him.

β€œIs it because of your fear of Him that He corrects you,
And enters into judgment with you?
Is not your wickedness great, And your iniquity without end?

Job 22:4-5

God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to die for us. It is through His Son's death that we have forgiveness of our sins. Jesus was with God at the creation of the world and all that is in it. In Hebrews we are told that Jesus has an endless life.

For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.
And it is yet far more evident if, in the likeness of Melchizedek, there arises another priest who has come,
not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life.

Hebrews 7:14-16

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:1,14

God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,
has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things,
through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person,
and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins,
sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Hebrews 1:1-3

2275X: I Am Not But I Know I Am: Little Me, Infinite God I Am Not But I Know I Am: Little Me, Infinite God
By Louie Giglio / Multnomah

God is looking for men and women who are willing to be small because they know how big he is---and understand who they are not! Redefining success, Giglio shows you how to obtain the astonishing freedom and incredible rest that comes from believing, like John the Baptist, that you must decrease while Jesus must increase. 160 pages, hardcover from Multnomah.
