God's Exquisite Garden

THE EXEMPLARY DAUGHTER (PART 1)

Print version

An exemplary daughter is one that is exactly as someone desires. Young girls of today are tomorrow's teachers, secretaries, lawyers, criminals, doctors, nurses, and mothers. What girls learn in these young years drastically affects how successful they are in their chosen field.

The above remarks were taken from the book - Here A Little And There A Little. It was written by Pauline Cain Hatcher. This was used with her grandson's permission.

The first place for teaching that was set up by God is the home. It is so necessary to have good communication there between children and their parents. Many times our schedules conflict or there is so much occurring that day, everyone in the family is unable to eat together. Should that be the case, we can still speak with each other, we have to make the time. We were created to glorify our Creator. That is our purpose here on this earth.

We read in Isaiah 43:7," Everyone who is called by My name whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him. "

We will talk about ten qualities any girl will need for her to be happy and exemplary or ideal.

DEPENDABLE The first quality is that of dependability. If we are dependable, we can be counted on when the need arises. An example of dependability is that of babysitting. Many girls begin babysitting at a young age. The baby's mother wants someone whom she can trust with her child.

CONSIDERATE Also there is the quality of being considerate. If we are considerate, we will have regard for other people's feelings.

" And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise." Luke 6:31
If she sees that help is needed at home with her mother, she needs to offer assistance. She may see a shy young girl at school or at church services. She needs to introduce herself and others to help this young girl become involved in activities there.

If we follow this scripture, we will be considerate of others: "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. " Galatians 6:2

FRIENDLY An exemplary daughter is friendly. Our friends should be cared for by us as we would care for a gem stone. We would be careful with it and try not to misplace it. We do not want to be envious of our friends. We need to be content with what we have.

We read in Proverbs 17:17 " A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born of adversity."

Some girls think they need a change in hairstyle, clothing, or location so they can make more friends when all they need is a change in their disposition. To keep our friends, we need to be secure about ourselves. Our telling of our friends' faults as we attempt to build ourselves up is showing others we are insecure about ourselves.

Any achievements we make, people will find out without our telling them about this achievement. " Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips." Proverbs 27:2

PURE IN SPEECH When we see the doctor, he often says, " Show me your tongue. " This describes our health to him. In that manner, our tongues reveal to others our thoughts. Out of our mouth, the thoughts of our hearts are revealed.

" You brood of vipers! How can you speak good things, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks." Matthew 12:34

Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.
Proverbs 4:23 (NKJV)

To the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm of David. I said, I will guard my ways, lest I sin with my tongue; I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle while the wicked are before me.
Psalm 39:1 (NKJV)

It might be easier to misuse our tongue. This saying I heard many times as I was growing up and my son hears it also - Just because something is easier, that doesn't make it right.

OBEDIENT Another quality is the acceptance of discipline. This acceptance of discipline needs to be done even if she disagrees with her parents' decision. She will come to the realization that "mother knows best", and she will help direct her daughter in her young Christian life.

Many young girls want discipline. They long for a home where curfews will be given. So many want questions asked such as, "Where do you plan to go and with whom. Who will be there and when will you return?"

" For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives." Hebrews 12:6

If she has self-discipline, she has won such a tremendous victory! Worldly thoughts and actions will have little if any affect upon her choices in life. She will be in control of her thoughts and actions throughout life. Proverbs 16:32, " He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his own spirit than he who takes a city."

Discussion and study questions:
(1) What does exemplary mean?
(2) Make a list of some forms of conduct that show our dependability.
(3) What will help us create the characteristic of consideration?

421128: Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations
By Alex & Brett Harris / Multnomah

The next generation stands on the brink of "Rebelution". With over 14 million hits to their website TheRebelution.com, Alex and Brett Harris are leading the charge in a growing movement of Christian young people who are rebelling against the low expectations of their culture by choosing to "do hard things" for the glory of God.

Written when they were 18 years old, Do Hard Things is the Harris twins' revolutionary message in its purest and most compelling form, giving readers a tangible glimpse of what is possible for teens who actively resist cultural lies that limit their potential.

Combating the idea of adolescence as a vacation from responsibility, the authors weave together biblical insights, history, and modern examples to redefine the teen years as the launching pad of life and map a clear trajectory for long-term fulfillment and eternal impact.

Written by teens for teens, Do Hard Things is packed with humorous personal anecdotes, practical examples, and stories of real-life rebelutionaries in action. This rallying cry from the heart of revolution already in progress challenges the next generation to lay claim to a brighter future, starting today.
