Directions: Underline the words in the story as you find them, unscramble them and write them in the boxes below. Pieter De Hooch was a Dutch painter. His father was a bricklayer and there were five children in Pieter's family. He married and had a large family also. He and his wife had seven children. Some of his early paintings were scenes of soldiers and taverns, but after he had a family, he began to paint pictures of families and scenes inside homes. In many of his pictures you can see into other rooms, or you can see what is outside the window. He liked to paint pictures that showed a lot of light in them. In the painting, Woman Peeling Apples, is such a scene. The sunlight is streaming through the window. Sometimes the light would be coming from another source. You can observe elaborate tile floors in several of his works. He died at the age of 55 in an insane asylum.
